Event details

In this webinar, we bring together the Believ team alongside local authority partners and industry experts to explore the resident engagement and behavioural challenges that shape the success of on‑street EV charging. Drawing on experience from projects across the UK, we’ll examine how councils and charge point operators can work together to build understanding, trust and long‑term community support for public charging infrastructure.

The panel will share practical lessons from the ground, including how to address common resident concerns, manage competing demands for kerbside space, reduce opposition and misuse, and encourage positive charging behaviours. We’ll discuss what effective engagement looks like at different stages of delivery – from site selection and consultation through to operation – and how clear communication, data and responsiveness can improve outcomes for all.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from peers and experts about turning behavioural challenges into opportunities, ensuring on‑street EV charging is well‑used, well‑understood and delivers lasting value for residents and local authorities alike.

Claire Ling

Environmental Strategy Project Manager

Suffolk County Council

After the dramatic UK summer of 2022, Claire decided that simply changing personal habits wasn’t enough to bring about environmental sustainability and improvement — she wanted to supporting others to make practical steps to look after the environment and prepare for the future. That moment became the catalyst for a career in the environmental sector, where she has now works. She moved from a much-loved role health visitor to Ipswich families into a new professional life within Suffolk County Council’s environmental team and hasn’t looked back.

Claire began her work with the Suffolk Climate Change Partnership supporting county‑wide efforts to help community groups make practical local improvements and strengthen their resilience. Today, he serves as Project Manager for Plug In Suffolk, helping deliver accessible on‑street EV charge points for residents without driveways. She sees this work as a privilege: enabling fair access to modern transport options while supporting Suffolk’s transition toward a better future.

Although she champions EV infrastructure and has been an EV driver for several years, she remains clear‑eyed about the bigger picture — the county needs fewer cars overall, not just cleaner, quieter ones. Alongside the EV work, she actively supports active travel initiatives and the expansion of Suffolks EV car clubs.

Originally from the Midlands, she lived in Suffolk for over 30 years for which she has a deep affection for — its landscapes, its communities, and its coastline. Outside of work, she enjoys yoga, sailing on the Broads, gardening, tending to her greenhouse vegetables, and checking how much power the household solar panels have generated each day!!! She loves the smooth, quiet drive of an EV, but whenever possible prefers to let the train take the strain, especially during her commute to Ipswich.

Driven by optimism, practicality, and a belief in shared responsibility, Claire works to make Suffolk a place where sustainable choices are easy, fair, and accessible for everyone
