EV Infrastructure
Electric vehicles will form a key part in achieving carbon reduction goals nationwide, as policy works to introduce them into the mainstream at an increasing pace. Whilst the deadline for sales of new petrol and diesel vehicles is fast approaching, it is important that councils across the country introduce the infrastructure necessary to make an electric vehicle a viable option for everyone. The first leaders’ debate of the conference will bring key insights, challenges, and strategies involved in rolling out effective electric vehicle infrastructure.

AI and Green Technology
The second panel discussion of the day will see expert speakers coming together to discuss the role that new technology and artificial intelligence can play in the future of net zero. With the public sector working hard to reduce carbon emissions in all aspects of their operations, new tech will be central to achieving this goal – whether this is by improving monitoring or simply providing new green tech that can replace older, more carbon intensive processes.

Alternative Fuels and Solutions
Great British Energy was introduced by the Labour Government when it won last year’s general election, and it is now working to look at how the UK can function on more environmentally friendly energy sources. Alongside this, organisations from across the sector are introducing new ways to heat and power homes, as well as the services that communities rely on. This panel discussion will delve into those alternative fuels, with key insight offered by panellists.
Ed Gemmell Leader Climate PartyI am an ex Army Officer and City Lawyer and have always been interested in climate change. My passion grew once I realised that this was the commercial opportunity of the century.
None of the mainstream parties are capitalising on this economic opportunity, which has led to the establishment of the Climate Party - the only pro-business, pro-climate political party.
I am Leader of the party as well as Managing Director of Scientists Warning Europe and am standing as a candidate in the Wycombe constituency, where I live with my two sons.
Hitesh Mahawar Climate Change Programme Manager Cherwell District CouncilI am a sustainability professional with a passion for making this world a better place for every living being, each day, working alongside with local government in the United Kingdom. I have recently completed an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge, as a Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda (MGOS) Scholar awarded by the Govt. of Jharkhand, India.
I have 5 years of work experience in leading projects and developing socio-techno-economic solutions focused on enhancing sustainable livelihood options and 3 years in consulting and implementing business use cases in the data science finance industry to solve business problems and improve strategic decision-making.
Apart from an MPhil from the University of Cambridge, I hold an M. Tech. in Technology and Development from the Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA) at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). This program provides engineers with the practical knowledge and problem-solving skills necessary to apply their technical understanding to effective sustainable development interventions.
My interests lie in sustainable development goals on topics ranging from climate change and energy to health, gender, education, and entrepreneurship.
Apart from my full time work, I am in the process of making a platform where we could stock all the best practices (local and global) referring to each United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (17 goals) and make it available for all to implement and replicate at the local level.

Social Housing Decarbonisation - Greening the Estate
This leader’s debate will explore how councils can go about reducing carbon emissions across their social housing stock, whilst ensuring that it remains affordable for the most vulnerable in society. This is particularly important at a time when the government is aiming to rapidly deliver more homes across the country, and it is imperative that this is done in a cost-effective way.

Decarbonisation and Biodiversity
Whilst there are several ways to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment from the effects of climate change, one that cannot be ignored is by supporting nature. With cities growing, more homes being building, and growth the target, introducing more green spaces to support the environment is a key goal for the public sector. The final leaders’ debate of the conference will look into how improving green spaces and biodiversity can contribute to decarbonisation targets nationwide.
