Event details

Phase 3 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme is allocating £1.425 billion from 2022/23 to 2024/25 for public sector organisations to implement low-carbon heating systems and reduce emissions.

With 52% of CO2 emissions from transport attributed to cars and taxis, the public sector must reconsider its decarbonisation strategies. Concerns are mounting about the UK’s ability to meet its 2050 Net Zero target, necessitating urgent action and innovation in green technologies. The public sector should lead by example, leveraging a £1 trillion market opportunity by 2030. Recent investments, including £24 billion for green initiatives and the reinstated 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel cars, indicate progress.

The new Labour government aims for 100% clean energy by 2030, enhanced energy efficiency, and increased renewable energy. Their plan includes creating millions of green jobs and the electrification of transport.

Register to join discussions on electric vehicles, alternative fuels, and green technology, focusing on how the UK can collaborate to achieve Net Zero.

  • 08:55 AM - 09:25 AM

    EV Infrastructure

Electric vehicles will form a key part in achieving carbon reduction goals nationwide, as policy works to introduce them into the mainstream at an increasing pace. Whilst the deadline for sales of new petrol and diesel vehicles is fast approaching, it is important that councils across the country introduce the infrastructure necessary to make an electric vehicle a viable option for everyone. The first leaders’ debate of the conference will bring key insights, challenges, and strategies involved in rolling out effective electric vehicle infrastructure.

  • 09:35 AM - 10:05 AM

    AI and Green Technology

The second panel discussion of the day will see expert speakers coming together to discuss the role that new technology and artificial intelligence can play in the future of net zero. With the public sector working hard to reduce carbon emissions in all aspects of their operations, new tech will be central to achieving this goal – whether this is by improving monitoring or simply providing new green tech that can replace older, more carbon intensive processes.

  • 10:40 AM - 11:10 AM

    Alternative Fuels and Solutions

Great British Energy was introduced by the Labour Government when it won last year’s general election, and it is now working to look at how the UK can function on more environmentally friendly energy sources. Alongside this, organisations from across the sector are introducing new ways to heat and power homes, as well as the services that communities rely on. This panel discussion will delve into those alternative fuels, with key insight offered by panellists.

  • 11:45 AM - 12:15 PM

Social Housing Decarbonisation - Greening the Estate

This leader’s debate will explore how councils can go about reducing carbon emissions across their social housing stock, whilst ensuring that it remains affordable for the most vulnerable in society. This is particularly important at a time when the government is aiming to rapidly deliver more homes across the country, and it is imperative that this is done in a cost-effective way.

  • 12:50 PM - 13:20 PM

    Decarbonisation and Biodiversity

Whilst there are several ways to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment from the effects of climate change, one that cannot be ignored is by supporting nature. With cities growing, more homes being building, and growth the target, introducing more green spaces to support the environment is a key goal for the public sector. The final leaders’ debate of the conference will look into how improving green spaces and biodiversity can contribute to decarbonisation targets nationwide.
